Frequently Asked Questions

Answers To Frequently Asked Questions

I am seriously interested in a puppy, what are my next steps?

Fill out our Puppy Application. After filling out our puppy application I will call you so we can have a conversation. Then after being accepted, I will email our Waitlist/Deposit Contract to you. You will sign/date the contract and pay your deposit via Zelle to be placed in order on my list for next puppies.

What is a deposit?

The deposit is the way to reserve a puppy until they are ready to go home with you. It is applied to the purchase price of the puppy. Should you submit a puppy application before I have available puppies, you will be placed on a waitlist in order of the date you paid your deposit. All waitlist applicants have first priority for newly available puppies in order of paid

deposit dates. The balance of the purchase price is paid when you pick up the puppy. The deposit is $500 and is non-refundable.

What will my puppy be eating when it comes home with me?

Your puppy will be eating Purina Pro Plan puppy food for small breeds.

What will I need to get for my puppy before I pick it up?

- Puppy food

- Training treats

- Food and water bowls

- Dog bed, pad or blankets to sleep on

- Puppy pen or crate to sleep in

- Crate or safety seat for your puppy/dog to ride in while in the car

- Variety of toys; soft fabric, tough fabric, balls, toys to climb on, interactive toys, treat toys

- Antlers for chewing and teething on

- Potty pads

- Dog collar/harness and leash

- Dog sweater/coat for cold days outside

- A local Veterinarian and appointments for 1-3 days after pickup and an appointment at 12 weeks for next vaccines

Is my puppy coming home with me already potty trained?

I wish the answer could be yes, however, that is not a realistic expectation of a puppy as young as 9 or 10 weeks old. Potty training should start immediately so you start off with your puppy knowing that you expect they not go just anywhere. I can tell you that they are fairly good at pottying on a potty pad. Placing a potty pad in the same location within close proximity helps them to know where to go when they have the urge and you are not right there to take them outside.

What type of medical care will my puppy receive?

- Appropriate deworming at 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 10 weeks of age.

- First puppy vaccinations (DAPPv) at 6 and 9 weeks of age.

- Intranasal Bordetella immunization at 7 weeks of age.

- Well Puppy Exam by my veterinarian a few days before they go home with you.

Can I pick up or have my puppy transported?

- You may pick up your puppy in person at our home.

- We can meet half way.

- We can meet at the Seattle Airport (SEA)

- We can meet at your local airport

- We can do a home delivery.

Expenses will depend on your location and transport method. More details on our Transport Services and Fees Options Page

Which is better, a male or female puppy?

Neither are better than the other in my opinion. Every puppy/dog has their own personality and temperament, but in general the Miniature Dachshund is a highly loyal and affectionate companion dog that is eager to please and very food oriented.

Which is better, a short hair or long hair Miniature Dachshund?

Neither are better than the other in my opinion. Both coat types shed equally, although long hairs can get mats if they are not properly groomed on a regular basis.

Why are Yorkshire Terriers tails docked?

Typically, Yorkshire Terriers tails are docked to meet the AKC “breed standard” which calls for a docked tail.

Will my puppy develop IVDD?

I cannot predict the future for your puppy. IVDD is possible for all Miniature Dachshunds because of their long backs and short legs. Science has not isolated the specific gene that is the cause for this disorder. There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of your puppy/dog developing back issues like preventing and discouraging jumping onto and off of furniture, climbing up or down stairs, jumping to greet you, standing on their back legs with their front legs off the ground (begging), picking your puppy up by the front of their body and not supporting their hindquarters when lifting or carrying.
